FAQ: Portable Backdrop Systems
How long does it take to set-up a portable backdrop?
A portable backdrop system from Shows To Go Backdrops can be completely set-up and ready for a performance in under 2 minutes.
Can one person set-up a portable backdrop?
Our standard frame 5x8, 8x8, 10x8 and 12x8 portable backdrops are all designed for easy set-up by one person. Mega-size backdrops (14x8, 17x8, and 10x10) and backdrops with the heavy duty frame set-up easier with two people.
How does the curtain attach to the frame?
The curtains attach to the frame using a series of hook and loop (Velcro) fastening points. This allows for fast set-up, and gives you the option to quickly swap out curtains.
Can I use my portable backdrop outdoors?
Standard frame backdrops are for indoor use only. Heavy duty frame backdrops can be used outdoors. In this case, we recommend anchoring the backdrop frame to a building, tent, or other stationary object. The heavyweight frame backdrop should not be used in windy conditions.
Can I leave the curtain attached to the frame?
We always recommend removing the backdrop curtain from the frame after each use. This helps keep the curtain looking the best between performances, and also allows everything to pack down the most compact size.
An overwhelming majority of our customers have told us that they have found that taking the curtain off the frame after each use actually makes for a faster set-up time than leaving the curtain on the frame. This is because extra steps and care in packing must be taken if the curtain is left on the frame.
If you think you really want the curtain to stay attached to the frame, then we recommend upgrading to the heavyweight frame.
What type of material is the curtain made from?
All our backdrops are printed on a heavy duty theatrical poly-canvas. It is the same material used in the set design of many TV and performing arts productions around the world. The finish of the material is matte (NOT shiny or glossy), so it will not reflect stage or video production or photography lighting. The durable material is designed to hold up to the demands of busy productions. Our fabrics are not fire-proof rated or certified, but they can be treated with a fire-proofing agent by the customer, if needed.
Does Shows To Go Backdrops offer custom artwork services?

Can you create custom size frames?
Because of the engineering of our frames, the portable backdrops are only available in select sizes. All available sizes are listed on our custom portable backdrop page. If you want a backdrop without a frame, we can print banners and backdrops in any custom size. We can print 5x8 backdrops to be turned to run horizontal (5ft H x 8ft wide) and 10x8 backdrops can be set-up as 8x10 (10ft high)
How long will it take to get my backdrop order?
Normal production time is 7-9 business days for all portable backdrop orders. For custom orders, production times starts after artwork is approved. Additional time should be allowed for delivery, based on the shipping method you select at checkout.
Do you accept rush orders?
We do offer rush production for a fee of $150. This moves your order to the front of the production line and reduces the production time to 6-7 business days. If you need rush service, please contact us prior to placing your order to confirm availability and arrange payment of rush order fee.
You can also always choose to upgrade to a faster shipping method during checkout to speed up your delivery time. Faster shipping time, however, does not decrease the production time.
